Easter is near...

I have no idea who the people in this picture are, but I thought it was representative of the commercialization of Easter...even though I totally would wear that bunny outfit and, if I was the kid, I'd be pumped to meet a huge Easter Bunny---even though he had a mustache and looked like my dad.
Just a quick thought about resurrection. The resurrection has two sides to it. Good and not so good. For those for whom Jesus is Lord, the resurrection is the realization of long standing hope...being raised to eternal life! For others, who reject Jesus Christ and His free and loving offer of eternal life, the resurrection spells doom and condemnation...eternally.
I'm struck with the finality of resurrection. Truly, it makes a difference what Easter means to us. If it's the snapshot of the resurrection to eternal life--its as sweet as chocolate bunnies and cadbury eggs...if its solely about the search for gifts of sugar and chocolate, I invite you to search for greater things in Jesus Christ...for it is written "Seek and you will find."
Hope you and your family have a memorable Easter weekend.

Thank you for your thoughts, Shane. My hope is that one day the resurrection message will be truly about hope and renewal and being a new creation in this life right now, instead of this complete obsession with the pursuit of the afterfile. The whole of faith captured in choosing sides. It is easy to see how the Christian faith has devolved into thousands of sects running around claiming to be on the side of right, pointing out condemnation and putting laser beam focus on believing in a literal historical event. What if the real focus was how the story of Christ's resurrection informs our spirit and forms our communities, perhaps our lives would really look different.

Chocolate bunnies are easy targets.

Thanks for the insightful comments. We(our family) get focused on making the resurrection buns every year and forget why until they come out of the oven. They look so much like a mountain side (covered with cinnamon sugar) and are hollow inside, representing the tomb. The marshmallow is all melted down to a white film, the grave clothes and it's totally empty of anything else. And we are reminded. He is risen!!! Then we take a bite of the sweet life he left behind for us to thoroughly enjoy as we bless others.

"The Christian life begins with spiritual restoration, which God works through the preaching of His Word, prayer, communion, worship, & the exercise of spiritual gifts within a local church. This is the indispensable beginning, for only the redeemed person is filled with God's Spirit & can genuinely know & fulfill God's plan. But then we are meant to proceed to the restoration of all God's creation, which includes public & private virtue. This redemptive goal permeates everything we do." (thoughts from Charles Colson's "How Shall We Then Live?") May God's tremendous love fill us as we celebrate His Resurrection in our daily lives!
